By hazard count
The first cut on a gas detector isn’t the brand on the case — it’s how many atmospheric hazards one person has to watch at once. That’s how this category splits, and where each sub-range goes deeper.
One named gas on a clip-on unit, issued and replaced at end of life (2- or 3-year). The economical choice when the risk is a single known hazard: H₂S at a sour-gas site, CO near combustion, O₂ in a tank. The disposable SENKO SP-SGT and Honeywell BW Clip live here.
One instrument reading H₂S, CO, O₂ and LEL together — the standard for confined-space entry and general plant work. Diffusion for wear-and-monitor; pumped for pre-entry sampling before anyone goes in.
Personal hydrogen sulphide monitoring, the single most common toxic risk on UAE oil & gas sites — including units written to the ADNOC HSE-OS-ST20 §9.8 personal H₂S spec.
Prefer to choose by maker instead of by hazard? See the Brands we supply section below — Honeywell BW and SENKO, plus MSA and Dräger to order.
How to specify
If the job is…
| Reach for
| Why |
|---|---|---|
| One known toxic or O₂ risk, issued per worker | Single-gas | Lower cost, zero maintenance, 2–3 yr life then replace |
| H₂S, CO, O₂ and LEL all matter (confined space, plant) | 4-gas (diffusion) | One unit covers the four confined-space gases |
| Testing a space before anyone enters | 4-gas (pumped) | A pump draws a sample through a hose — a chest-worn diffusion unit can't do pre-entry sampling |
| Personal H₂S on a sour-gas / ADNOC site | H₂S single-gas | Purpose-built, with a certified personal option |
| Kitchen/LPG alarm, refrigerant sniffer, flue analyser, fixed XNX transmitter | Not this range | Different product class — ask and we'll point you right |
A 4-gas instrument is the right answer when those four gases all matter — not automatically the answer for one known H₂S or CO risk, which is a single-gas unit at a fraction of the cost.
Portable gas detection isn’t one job — it’s wherever the air can turn toxic, flammable, or short of oxygen without warning. The setting usually decides both the gas and the type of unit:
The gas you need to see decides the unit more than the industry name does — so if your setting isn’t listed above, the hazard still points to the right detector.

Sensor reference
A gas detector only monitors the gas its sensor is built for — so the gas you need to see decides the unit. Here’s the full range our detectors cover, what each gas does, and where it turns up:
Gas
| Symbol | The hazard
| Typically found around
| On which range
|
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Hydrogen sulphide | H₂S | Toxic — fatal at high ppm, deadens smell fast | Sour gas, oil & gas, sewers, tanks | Single-gas · H₂S · every 4-gas |
| Carbon monoxide | CO | Toxic — odourless, from incomplete combustion | Engines, boilers, welding, fires | Single-gas · 4-gas |
| Oxygen | O₂ | Depletion (suffocation) and enrichment (fire risk) | Confined spaces, inerted vessels | Single-gas · 4-gas |
| Combustible / flammable gases | LEL | Explosion — methane, propane, solvents, vapours | Pipelines, refineries, fuel stores | 4-gas (catalytic-bead or IR) |
| Carbon dioxide | CO₂ | Asphyxiant at high concentration | Cold storage, breweries, cellars | BW Flex · select single-gas |
| Sulphur dioxide | SO₂ | Toxic, irritant | Refineries, smelting, combustion | SENKO single-gas · BW Flex |
| Ammonia | NH₃ | Toxic, corrosive | Refrigeration plant, fertiliser, food | SENKO single-gas · BW Flex |
| Nitrogen dioxide / nitric oxide | NO₂ / NO | Toxic exhaust / process gas | Diesel plant, tunnels, mining | SENKO single-gas · BW Flex |
| Chlorine | Cl₂ | Toxic, corrosive | Water treatment, pools, chemical plant | SENKO single-gas · BW Flex |
| Hydrogen | H₂ | Flammable / explosive | Battery rooms, electrolysis | SENKO single-gas · BW Flex |
| Hydrogen cyanide | HCN | Highly toxic | Plating, fumigation, fire overhaul | BW Flex |
H₂S, CO, O₂ and LEL are the four "confined-space" gases — the standard 4-gas set. The rest are specialty sensors, fitted per application. A few sensor pairings aren't possible in one unit because of cross-sensitivity.
Brands we supply
We lead with Honeywell BW and SENKO — the two lines we move most from Abu Dhabi, covering everything from a disposable single-gas clip to a connected 5-gas instrument.
MSA Safety and Dräger also sourced to order, quoted to the same spec.
Certification
Every detector on this page is built for potentially explosive atmospheres and carries recognised hazardous-area certification — so it’s approved to be switched on where flammable gas may be present:
The exact certificate for the model and configuration you order — including the SENKO SP-SGT’s ATEX EU-Type Examination Certificate and IECEx/CSA documentation — ships with the unit for your HSE file. Full ADNOC §9.8 detail is on the [H₂S gas detectors] page.
Pricing
Two things move the price: single-gas vs multi-gas, and for multi-gas, diffusion vs pumped plus the sensor set. Indicative UAE market ranges (Sep 2026) — a guide for orientation, not BN International General Trading’s quoted price:
Range | Market guide (AED)
| What moves it
|
|---|---|---|
| Single-gas (incl. H₂S) | from ~AED 300 | Gas type, 2-yr vs 3-yr life, disposable vs serviceable |
| Multi-gas — 4-gas diffusion | ~AED 1,880–2,200 | Sensor set, brand |
| Multi-gas — 4/5-gas pumped or connected | ~AED 2,400–2,800 | Integrated pump, Bluetooth, 5th sensor |
Per-unit cost drops on crew and project quantities. We quote the real price for your exact model and volume — send the gas, model preference and quantity. Cash on delivery is available, alongside bank transfer and corporate invoicing for account customers.

FAQ
Yes — smell is not a safe warning. H₂S deadens your sense of smell within minutes at dangerous levels, so it can seem to “disappear” as it gets more lethal, and gases like carbon monoxide and methane have no smell at all. A detector reads the actual concentration; your nose can’t.
Disposable units like the BW Clip and SENKO SP-SGT run 2 or 3 years from activation, then the whole device is replaced — no sensor swaps. Serviceable multi-gas detectors keep going for years, but their individual sensors have their own lives (roughly 2–5 years) and are replaced as they age. Unactivated stock also has a shelf life, so we rotate to supply fresh units.
In practice, yes. UAE occupational-safety frameworks — OSHAD in Abu Dhabi, and the permit-to-work systems on ADNOC and major contractor sites — require the atmosphere to be tested before entry and monitored throughout. A calibrated direct-reading detector is how that requirement is met.
The low alarm is an early warning — take action or prepare to leave. The high alarm means evacuate now. Multi-gas units add TWA and STEL alarms, which track your average exposure over a full shift and over any 15-minute window, catching slow build-ups a single reading would miss.
Yes — the units we supply are rated to +50°C ambient (and down to −40°C), covering UAE outdoor conditions, with 5–95% humidity tolerance. The one thing to avoid is leaving a detector on a dashboard or in a sealed vehicle, where temperatures climb well past the rated limit and can shorten sensor life.
