Two things that trip up procurement
Slip resistance is now built in — but the marking changed. The 2022 revision of the standard made slip resistance a baseline requirement for every class and retired the old SRA / SRB / SRC marks in favour of a single optional SR mark for enhanced grip. Shoes certified to the older 2011 version still carry SRC and remain valid while stock lasts — so a single delivery can legitimately contain both marking systems. If your HSE file was written against “SRC” and the shoes arrive marked to 2022, the paperwork needs updating to the current code, not the shoe rejected.
Penetration resistance now splits by midsole type. You’ll see P for a steel midsole and PL or PS for non-metallic (textile) ones, tested with different nail diameters — hence codes like S1PS or S3S. Same protection concept, different material.

Which rating for which job
The rating follows the hazard, not the industry name on the letterhead:
- General site, construction, industrial → S1P is the UAE default: toe cap + antistatic + penetration-resistant midsole for nails and debris underfoot.
- Outdoor, damp or wet-underfoot work → S3 adds a water-resistant upper and a cleated outsole for grip on loose ground.
- Dry indoor, logistics, light assembly → S1 is often enough where there’s no penetration risk.
- Slippery floors — kitchens, wash bays, process floors → prioritise the SR (or SRC) slip mark on top of your base class.
- Security-sensitive sites, airports, metal-detector zones → composite toe (metal-free) at your required class.

Steel toe or composite toe?
Both meet the same 200 J impact requirement — the difference is everything around it:
Steel toe gives that protection in a slimmer cap and usually costs less — the practical default for general construction and heavy industrial work.
Composite toe (Kevlar, carbon fibre, or reinforced polymer) is metal-free, so it’s lighter over a long shift, doesn’t conduct heat or cold, and won’t trigger a metal detector — the right call for airports, security screening, and crews who value all-day lightness. It’s typically a little more expensive for the same class.
Impact protection is identical; choose on weight, temperature, and whether metal-free matters on your site.
Fit & sizing — where footwear orders actually go wrong
A coverall in the wrong size is uncomfortable; a safety shoe in the wrong size gets swapped for a trainer by Friday, and then the protection is gone. We stock the standard men’s run EU 38–46 plus a dedicated ladies’ fit range, and source half-sizes or specials to order.
Measure at the end of the day. UAE heat swells feet noticeably over a shift — a shoe fitted in the morning can feel tight by afternoon. Stand with full weight on a sheet of paper, trace the outline, measure heel to longest toe, do both feet, and size for the larger.
Leave a finger-width of toe room — about 10–15 mm ahead of the longest toe — so the cap can absorb an impact without driving into the toes. Check the heel sits with minimal slip and the midfoot is snug, not tight.

For a crew order, send us a size breakdown across the workforce, not one total quantity — it's the single thing that stops a rollout stalling on missing sizes. Sizing varies slightly between makers at the larger end, so direct foot measurement is the reliable method for bulk.
Making them last in UAE conditions
Safety footwear is a consumable, but a few habits stretch the replacement cycle — and UAE heat is the main enemy:
- Wipe down the upper and outsole after each shift before dust grinds into the seams; pull the insoles out to air overnight.
- Clean with a soft brush and mild soap — never solvents, bleach or the washing machine, which break down adhesives and the shoe’s protective structure.
- Air-dry in the shade — never in direct sun, near a heater, or left in a parked vehicle or site container. UAE summer heat warps soles and weakens the bonds holding the shoe together.
- Store cool and ventilated, out of sealed plastic bags — trapped humidity breeds mould.
- Replace on any of these: worn/smooth tread, cracks around the toe cap, the upper separating from the sole, compressed insoles — or after any heavy impact, even with no visible damage, since the cap can be compromised internally.
